Oneway 1224 – Medium-sized, but big on performance

The Oneway 1224 is a lathe without compromises. All components are made from high-quality steel, with tight tolerances, premium bearings, and a powerful motor. This lathe shares the same solid construction as Oneway’s larger models, like the 1640 and 2436. Key components such as the bed, banjo, and bearings are identical to those of the bigger machines.

This lathe is designed for woodturners with limited space, who mainly work on small to medium-sized pieces but still demand top performance from their equipment. If you do a lot of pen turning, this is your perfect partner.

Specifications

  • Distance between centers: 60 cm (optional extension available)
  • Total length of lathe: 120 cm
  • Swing over bed: 30 cm
  • Total weight: 140 (!) kg

The Bed

The bed is welded to reinforcement ribs, which are mounted to a 12 cm diameter steel tube with a 6.5 mm wall thickness. This creates exceptional rigidity. On the 1224, the tube is positioned slightly toward the rear rather than centered under the bed — allowing shavings to fall directly to the floor. A bed extension is available.

Headstock / Spindle

  • 24-position indexing
  • Spindle lock
  • Spindle thread: 1"-8 TPI (M33x3.5 adapter available)
  • #2 Morse taper
  • Through-hole: 10 mm

The spindle runs on four bearings: two 45 mm bearings at the front for minimal play, and two 40 mm bearings at the rear to absorb heat expansion. All bearings are maintenance-free and permanently lubricated. The spindle itself is made from high-alloy, hardened steel with a tolerance of just 0.001 mm.

Frequency Inverter

  • Stepless speed control from 0 to 4500 RPM
  • Forward and reverse
  • Powerful 750W (1 HP) motor, 220V
  • 2 pulleys with Multi-V belt
  • Speed ranges: 0–1200 / 0–4500 RPM
  • Belt changes take just seconds
  • Motor mounted under the headstock
  • Up to 150% overload capacity for short bursts

Tailstock

  • Quill travel: 7.5 cm – zero play
  • Fine thread pitch for smooth drilling
  • Easily removable from the bed
  • #2 Morse taper
  • Strong clamping on the bed

Banjo / Toolrest Base

Oneway’s patented clamping system uses a lever instead of a wrench. This makes repositioning quick and easy. Many turners consider this the best banjo on the market — it's even popular among owners of other lathe brands.

Toolrest

Thanks to the unique clamping system, the toolrest holds rock-solid, yet it moves freely when released. Even after a full day of turning hardwood like oak, it's still smooth and easy to adjust.

Variable Speed Control

Not every frequency inverter is suitable for a lathe — but this one is. Preprogrammed, plug-and-play, and strong across the full speed range.

  • Stepless speed control from 0 to 4500 RPM (forward/reverse)
  • High torque even at low speeds (from 100 RPM)
  • Belt changes take just seconds
  • Delivers up to 150% of motor power for short peak loads
