The CARP 1824 Classic Full Options

Expected availability from July 2026

A stable lathe that stands out among all other lathes due to its extremely good price-quality ratio. The bed, headstock, and tailstock are made of cast iron, making the CARP 1824 a stable lathe with virtually no vibrations. For the base, you can choose between cast iron or the extra stable, height-adjustable steel legs.

The headstock is rotatable and movable, ensuring that there is always a suitable position for every workpiece. But there are more features that make the 1824 a great investment.

The quill (the shaft that can be extended from the tailstock) is hardened. You won’t see it, but it’s a welcome addition, especially when drilling. Additionally, the quill has a trapezoidal thread. This ensures that the quill can handle significantly more force and moves in and out more smoothly.

The finish on the lathe is a powder coating. No paint was sprayed on; instead, we chose a durable finish that can withstand impact… a powder coating.

A third striking difference is the tool rest. CARP lathes naturally use CARP tool rests—the best available. They are vibration-free and feature a 12 mm top made of hardened round steel (62-63 HRC). The spindle of the lathe has an M33 x 3.5 mm thread (DIN 800). Additionally, the spindle is equipped with a safety feature that prevents components from coming loose during turning. This ASR ring ensures that a faceplate or chuck cannot come off while the lathe is running. The ASR ring is, of course, included.

The motor has adjustable speeds. A reliable frequency converter controls the 3-phase motor. Thanks to the frequency converter, maximum torque is always available. Between centers, you can clamp workpieces up to a maximum of 62 cm.

With the optional outboard turning attachment, you can turn extremely large diameters, or you can extend the bed. The outboard turning attachment consists of a bed extension and a height adjustment for the tool rest. This attachment can be mounted at various positions on the lathe.

Stand – Cast Iron or Steel

In 2025, I designed new stands for the CARP lathes. These stands fit the CARP 1624, CARP 1824 Classic, CARP 2032 XL, and they are supplied as standard with the CARP 2432 MEGA. These steel legs are heavier and more stable than the cast iron versions. The legs are very easy and precise to adjust in height, allowing the ideal turning height to be set for almost every user. In addition, levelling the lathe becomes quick and effortless. Here it goes to the  cast iron legs and the steel legs .

3-Year Warranty

Why choose a CARP lathe?

Although CARP is a Dutch brand, CARP lathes are manufactured in China and Taiwan, However, a keen turner will notice the differences. The powder coating, hardened tool rest, hardened quill, improved live center, or the trapezoidal thread in the quill—these are the details that make CARP lathes stand out. These are things you may not notice at first glance, but you will certainly appreciate over time! Compare and choose CARP.
