Ferrule – Make Your Own Handle
Ferrule for a Handle
A good tool handle is made of wood, especially when it comes to woodturning tools. To prevent the wood from splitting when fitting the handle onto the tool, a ferrule is used. These ferrules have a diameter of Ø 34 x 18 mm and are made from stainless steel.
TIP
Chamfer the end of the handle that is to be driven into the ferrule. This will allow the wood to slide tightly into the ferrule more easily. Here you will find beautiful wood for making a handle.
TIP 2
A thick stainless steel ferrule certainly looks beautiful and is extremely strong, but you can achieve the same result by simply cutting a ring from a piece of copper water pipe or central heating pipe.
