Cut'n Polish - Chestnut
Chestnut Cut ’n’ Polish Wax
Chestnut Cut ’n’ Polish is a soft polishing wax for finishing woodturning projects. It is made from a blend of two different waxes and contains a fine abrasive. This lightly sands and polishes the wood during application, producing a smooth finish with an attractive satin sheen.
Cut ’n’ Polish starts with a slightly coarser polishing action than products such as EEE Ultra Shine and Surfin. This means that, with many types of wood, you can stop sanding at 180 or 240 grit and continue with Cut ’n’ Polish.
During polishing, the abrasive particles gradually become finer. The product therefore cuts relatively strongly at first and then progressively refines the surface, resulting in a smoother finish and a higher sheen.
Cut ’n’ Polish is slightly more fluid than most other polishing compounds. This makes it easy to spread and allows the wax to capture fine sanding dust. It therefore helps prevent fine dust particles from becoming airborne in the workshop.
The wax can be used on both bare and pre-finished wood. A higher level of sheen can generally be achieved on wood that has first been treated with a product such as sanding sealer.
Instructions for use
Carefully sand bare wood to approximately 180 or 240 grit. Stop the lathe and apply a small amount of Cut ’n’ Polish evenly to the surface.
Restart the lathe and polish the workpiece with a soft cloth. Continue polishing until the surface feels smooth and has an even satin sheen. The longer you polish, the finer the abrasive particles become and the greater the resulting sheen.
Apply the wax to pre-finished wood in the same way.
Cut ’n’ Polish dries almost immediately after polishing. For a higher-gloss finish, the surface can then be finished with Friction Polish or another suitable wax.
